Students enjoy the Scholastic News as part of the 2nd grade common core curriculum. The Scholastic News comes out monthly with four interesting informational articles in the areas of science and social studies. Each article has online activities that the students enjoy doing as a class. The online activities include vocabulary, an informational video on the topic, a read along, and an online game. Worksheets correlate with the article topics in all four common core areas of science, social studies, math, and reading. We read one article each week and students are gaining great exposure to reading informational text and using the reading strategies that are helpful in understanding informational text.

For the 2019-2020 school year I am also incorporating Science Spin into my classroom which is also part of Scholastic News targeting science concepts.
